Two Indian Films Reached To Cannes – “Chauthi Koot” & “Masaan”

Mumbai: Cannes Film Festival has released their nominees list of  popular categories to public. Two of the Indian films are now a part of the award ceremony. The films are elected for Un Certain Regard award section. One is a Hindi movie titled “Masaan” and second is a Punjabi flick “Chauthi Koot”. Both movies are based on true stories.

The Masaan is directed by Neeraj Ghewan. Neeraj first appeared as an assistant director in 2013’s blockbuster Gangs of Wasseypur. This is his first feature film, written by Varun Grover. The film revolves around the story of four people of Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi. The lead cast includes Richa Chadda and Vinit Kumar Singh. The film is also completely shot in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

On the other hand, Gurvinder Singh has directed the ‘Chauthi Koot’. His latest movie was ‘Annhe Ghode Da Daan’, it was also a Punjabi feature film. This time he tried to communicate with Sikhs’ horrors, it is based on the 1984 terrible attacks on Sikh community. It was not much successful commercially, but it was critically.

Getting selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes Film Festival’s is an achievement for both young filmmakers.

Other than these movies, Indian films also dominates Taurus Stunt Awards 2015 nominations. Two best high-budget movies ‘Bang Bang’ starring Hrithik Roshan and ‘Kick’ starring Salman Khan have been nominated in several categories for their amazing mind blowing action stunts. Along with the film ‘Bang Bang’, its actress Katrina Kaif also gets listed for Best Stunt Played By A Stunt Woman category.

It is an honor for Indian Cinemas to such movies representing the evergreen film culture at Hollywood.

The film festival will take place from May 13 to 24 2015.
