Piku Picks Dull On 1st Day At The Box Office – 15-20% Occupancy


The much anticipated movie, and first time screenplay of Deepika-Amitabh together, has hit theaters yesterday (May 8th, 2015) along with another competitor Kuch Kuch Locha Hai featuring Ram Kapoor and Sunny Leone. Both movies are of different genres, so there is no much competition to talk about. Although, people have limited time and they cannot watch two movies simultaneously.

Looking after its star cast, ‘Piku’ is definitely a high-budget planned movie with industry’s finest actors/actress like Deepika, Amitabh and Irrfan Khan. It should generate some profit to the producers, but what is it stopping ‘Piku’ to earn money? Is it competition, no! Is it criticism, obviously no! It is the lacking of buzz created prior to its release.

The movie contains 5 soundtracks excluding the remix version of the title song. Its songs were not successful exposing the movie’s story or elements which could have flourished the audience to come to the theaters and watch it. It failed to generate the excitement.

On an average (from all over the India), the movie is doing well in multiplexes and excess of overall income is coming from big-screen. People want more entertainment and comedy kinds of films in small-screens which should also be affordable. ‘Piku’ is not that type of movie, the story means everything here, along with the characters which have been portrayed amazingly.

‘Piku’ grossed Rs 7.2 Crores as the first day business at the domestic box office. It has not been screened internationally, so no chance of earnings overseas. It managed to capture 15-20% Occupancy on the first day, according to the Times of India.

One of the two Friday releases, one has got a higher or say leaps and bounds stars rating by Bollywood critics. Which one is more praised? Needless to say, Sunny Leone movie has made it worse, whereas ‘Piku’ is appreciated a lot by critics such as Taran Adarsh, Komal Nahta and Rajeev Masand.

‘Piku’ had more expectations in terms of Box Office. But it would patch up by word of mouth as the audience is definitely going to love it.
