Taslima Nasreen, a writer from Bangladesh who stays in controversies, who never had “high hopes with Hindi movies” has been left “speechless” after watching the internationally-acclaimed Indian Hindi movie ‘Masaan’.
The movie Masaan has been starred by the actress Richa Chadha and is basically a women-oriented film.
Taslmia Nasreen said, “I did not have high hopes about Hindi movies as most of them were musical melodrama. But ‘Masaan’ has made me speechless. I salute Neeraj Ghaywan”.
She tweeted this compliment about the movie.
Neeraj Ghaywan is the director of film Masaan and it marked the debut for him in the field of directing the movies.
The story of the movie revolves around four lives which intersect along the Ganga Ghats in Varansasi. The plot continues as a low-caste boy falls hopelessly in love; a hapless father with fading morality; a spirited child yearning for a family; a daughter ridden with guilt of sexual encounter ending in a tragedy, long to escape the moral constructs of a small town.
The ‘overwhelmed debut director replied to the compliment by saying, “Overwhelmed! Thank you so much!”.
The movie has already won two awards at the 68th Cannes International Film Festival. It bagged the ‘Promising Future Prize’ and the ‘International Federation of Film Critics (Fipresci) Award’ at the prestigious fest.
The other lead stars in the movie along with Richa Chadha are Sanjay Mishra, Shweta Tripathi and Vicky Kaushal.
The film has been jointly produced by Drishyam Films, Phantom Films, Macassar Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.
The film Masaan hit the Indian screens of July 24th and got positive reviews from critics as well as audience.
Bollywood star, Ayushmann Khurrana also expressed his delight after watching the film Masaan and said that he is really happy as more women-oriented movies are coming.
He also appreciated the work of Richa Chadha in the movie.
