Amitabh Bachchan, the popular Bollywood mega-star has been roped in to be the new ‘Khadi’ brand ambassador.
Arun Kumar, the CEO of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) confirmed the same through his statement on 9th August 2015.
Arun said that Amitabh has agreed to the proposal to become the new brand ambassador of ‘Khadi’ and he will do it without any fees as a ‘pro bono’.
The sales of ‘Khadi’ has been witnessing rise from the last year. This has been the result of PM Narendra Modi’s appeal to the nation to use it for the greater good.
Now, as the megastar of Bollywood industry is associated with the plan, the CEO of KVIC hopes to get more rise in ‘Khadi’ sales.
The majority of India’s population is its youth. So, to increase sales KVIC already have been working with a plan. They have launched Khadi denim products like jeans, T-shirts, jackets, etc. in June 2015. To further see a rise in the sales, the commission is going to step in trouser market.
KVIC is slowly and steadily working to increase Khadi’s varieties along with working to increase outlets by setting franchisees and eventually will launch an e-commerce website on October 2.
Currently, they are producing garments only for men, but will produce for women and children too in the near future.
The CEO of KVIC, Jha further revealed that there was a total sale of Rs 1140 crore in 2014-15. He said that they have intentions to take it over Rs 1600 crore in 2015-16.
At present, there are about seven thousand registered outlets of Khadi across the nation. They are going to take steps in order to increase this number to twenty thousand in the next 2 years through a franchisee model.
On Friday, when Modi participated in the first National Handloom Day, he again appealed to the citizens to use Khadi products and also promoted handloom products during his speech in Chennai.
