‘Bombay Velvet’, As Expected, Took A Poor Start At the Box Office

‘Bombay Velvet’, the latest release of director Anurag Kashyap, known for his out-of-the box movies, has taken a poor start at the box office. As the same was expected, do not amaze, the cold trailer and songs are witnesses to its failure commercially. Ranbir Kapoor could be a plus point for the movie, as he returns on silver screens after 2 years.

He last starred in Roy and Besharam. Though Roy did average, and Besharam failed to attract footsteps in theaters. However, both of them were disaster commercially and critically. Ironically, Besharam was also directed by Anurag Kashyap.

It is the first high-budget movie which Anurag has ever directed previously. Most of the money used in recreating the sets of Bombay 60s and costumes for actors. The play by Anurag seems like not well gambled. The occupancy on the Friday was recorded to be around 15% (probably below than it).

In fact, few theaters had to cancel the morning shows because there was not enough eyes to watch the love story of Anushka-Ranbir. Looking after its star cast, it has taken a below par start, actually not somewhere around the par.

Komal Nahta, trade analyst, tweeted, Bad start for Bombay Velvet. 1st show at Fun, Gwalior cancelled due to lack of audience. Velocity, two Inoxes in Indore report poor collections.

In fact, the start was lower than ‘Roy’. The trade analyst confirmed it on his twitter handle, Opening of disastrous Roy was better than Bombay Velvet initial in C.I. Sad day for film industry.

‘Bombay Velvet’ consumed more than Rs 100 Crores to complete its shooting to the credits. Considering big names like Karan Johar, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharama; it should not have hustled much to attract eyeballs.

But it was disastrous and people understood it after watching its trailer. The soundtracks did not sound impressive. From a perspective of 60s, they might have sounded amazing, but not nowadays.

‘Bombay Velvet’ collected Rs 5.3 Crores on Friday at the box office. The voids are likely to filled more on Sunday, it will also mark the highest business day of this film.
