The upcoming directorial of Ketan Mehta has been declared free of entertainment tax in Bihar state of India. “Manjhi: The Mountain Man” stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Radhika Apte in lead roles.
The decision waiving-off the entertainment tax was taken by the Bihar government at a cabinet meeting chaired by the CM Nitish Kumar. Shishir Kumar Yadav, the Principal Secretary, Cabinet Coordination department, confirmed the same.
“Manjhi: The Mountain Man” is a biopic inspired from the life of Dashrath Manjhi, a labourer who made a path by digging a mountain using only a hammer and a chisel in 22 years. He did it out of love for his wife who died while crossing the mountain and moreover, no other villager will need to pass the same. The time and distance are now reduced to a great extent.
The chief minister of Bihar wants to promote it by reducing a significant amount by exempting the entertainment tax. He wants that everyone should watch this inspiring film of a man popularly known as the “Mountain Man“, so that people get inspiration to do hard work. Moreover, he wants people to have right perspective in their lives.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the Gangs of Wasseypur fame actor, is essaying the role of Dashrath Manjhi, and Radhika Apte will be seen as his wife in the biopic.
Dashrath Manjhi lived in a small village named Gehlaur in Gaya district. He was born in 1934 in a family of very low caste in a higher caste ridden society.
Dashrath Manjhi single-handedly carved out a path for his village to reach out the outside world easily and in short span of time. Earlier, the village was isolated from the world which made the area devoid of basic requirements for the human survival like medical aid, etc. The nearest hospital was at a distance of seven hours or 55 kilometers, but after carving out the path, the same reduced to just 15 kilometers or two hours.
Manjhi died in 2007, just before completing the road. He was then honored a state funeral. The current CM of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, declared to build a 3 kilometer proper road to his village as well as a hospital to be named after Manjhi.
The determined and dedicated life of this labourer attracted Mr Perfectionist of Bollywood, Aamir Khan, to go to his village. In 2014, the first episode of the TV show Satyamev Jayate was dedicated to the great soul.
“Manjhi: The Mountain Man” is slated to release on August 21, 2015.
