The ‘At Home’ reception is being hosted by the Indian President since 2003. Since then, it has been organized in Rashtrapati Bhavan. It is celebrated every year on 9th August to honour freedom fighters as it is a very special occasion which marks the anniversary of the Quit India Movement.

This famous movement started on 9th August 1942 as decided by the All India Congress Committee on the previous day to ask Britishers to ‘Quit India’. It started from Bombay and the very next day, the numerous freedom fighters were arrested which included Mahatma Gandhi. The arresting action and call of Gandhiji resulted in the civil disobedience movement which went viral immediately across the nation demanding immediate independence.
